Packrafting

I am now a happy owner of an Alpacka Raft, thanks to Avanza Kayak of Sweden. This is a relatively new ‘sport’ for me, but I strapped the raft to my bike on The Great Americas trip and used it a bit in central America. The biggest packrafting trip by far was paddling down the Rio Bocay and Rio Coco in Nicaragua. But we included a couple of day trips on the Rio Dulce in Guatemala and to Somoto Canyon in Nicaragua.

My first outing however, was back in the UK on the river Thames. And now that I’m back in the UK I look forward to many more trips with the packraft…

Pirogues

While cycling in Africa me and Lars had the great idea to buy a pirogue (locally-built wooden boat) and paddle it down the upper reaches of the Niger River in Guinea. We paddled from Faranah to Kouroussa and the 350km took two weeks of hard work. But it was great fun!!
