Firstly, Timbuktu is a real place – a dusty town on the edge of the Sahara in Mali.
Timbuktu is a place of legend and many early European explorers through the desert strived (and often died trying) to get to this fabled town. For those who did arrive in Timbuktu, leaving was often harder. Not many survived to tell the tale.
It seems that these days it’s much easier for would-be explorers and to get to and even leave Timbuktu (there’s even an airport!) alive.
The same cannot be said for the town’s cats though…
Made me wonder just what exactly the meat in my brochettes was!!
